Pharming
Pharming involves tampering with the name resolution process on the internet, otherwise known as DNS cache poisoning.
According to Sophos : "When you enter a website address (eg. www.download.com ), this is converted to a numeric IP address (eg. 111.222.34.56) (known as name resolution). The task is performed by DNS (domain name system) servers. These servers store the IP address of each domain name. Each computer that connects to the internet stores a file with names of servers and IP addresses so it isn't necessary to access the DNS servers for certain server names each time."
This is where the fraudsters come in, by modifying the name resolution. This means that when you visit your bank site, and the name resolution has been changed on your PC, you could be visiting a fake site, which looks like the original. The danger is that every time you visit your bank site, these fraudsters could be ripping you off.
And you thought phishing was bad?!
This type of trickery can happen when a script or .exe file (in email or downloads etc.) is executed and compromises your operating system. The solution is to keep your antivirus up to date at all times.
